Adeline was born to be the youngest. There was a span of five years between her and her second eldest brother, and she was to be the last of the children of Derrik and Lucia, the former a moderately successful locksmith. She grew up loved, the youngest, and only girl, and treated like a small piece of glass by her older brothers, who were already learning their father's trade.

When Elsie came it was a surprise, but welcome to Adeline, as it meant she was no longer the youngest. Attentions shifted to the baby, and while Adeline was expected to help out--and she did-- she was also free to slip away in afternoons and wander the town. She started frequenting a local monastery, and making friends with the clerics, although she never had much of a desire to become like them. She was always looking to learn, and they were willing to teach, beyond the realms of what daily lessons taught. She spent much of her teenage years shifting time between learning whatever her father taught her about locks and learning whatever she could from the books the clerics let her come and read. She occasionally dreamed of leaving the town and travelling to another place, away from her duties in her father's shop, and her duties to her mother and younger sister, and doing something useful.

And then she turned nineteen and received her wish. She was tested, and found to have magical capabilities, so she was taken to Everthorne. No one in her family had ever shown magical talent, so despite losing a pair of extra hands around the shop, they were all very proud of her.

Adeline dedicated most of her time during Everthorne to her studies, and while she had trouble with the social side of things, her studies excelled, and she graduated with good marks. She returned to her family briefly to give them the good news, and offer to them whatever financial help that they'd need, although she already knew her father would be too proud to ever ask for her money.

She stayed with them for a few weeks while she organized her affairs, and sorted out what she was going to do with the rest of her life. She wasn't exactly sure to start, now that she had this amazing opportunity before her. She didn't want to go and sit in the capital city and be lazy like she knew some of her fellow classmates would, but she decided instead to take to travelling. She decided she'd visit the other cities of Fairn, stopping at the educational facilities and talking with more experienced mages, while expanding her own abilities. She imagined she could eventually help further developmental skills in magic, although she wanted to study what she could before she settled down. She hired a carriage driver (because she was certainly not climbing on a horse again if she could avoid it) and bought a horse and set out from her hometown.

At first she was almost disgusted by the way people welcomed her into their cities, when previously, if she'd been with her father or anyone else from her family she would've been barely spared a glance, and she gained a bit of a reputation for being overly modest, although she has since grown uncomfortably used to the lifestyle of a mage. Not that she ever joins in on the parties that are thrown, but she does receive the invitations, and return very polite declines.

Adeline is a rather reserved individual, due to never wanting the express attention she was paid as the youngest and only daughter, and her later studies with the clerics. She talks with a fairly even tone, although she's capable of raising her voice or affecting a harsh tone. She has also been known to get a bit of a townie accent when she's angry, although she's quite good at disguising it otherwise.

Seeing as she's a rather bookish person, she's got the opinions to match, and while she tries to be polite about it, she isn't against arguing her point in things, and she won't back down from something she believes in, something she inherited from her father.

Adeline has fair hair, eyes, and skin. She's fairly tall and slender, and tends to dress in darker colors or earth tones. A lot of her clothes are actually hand-me-downs from her brothers and mother, re tailored to fit her slender shape. Since she's completely uncreative with a needle, it's all her mother's work. She wears glasses when she's reading, because all the reading she did when she grew up in the dim lighting of the monastery ended up affecting her eyesight. These too are a hand-me-down, from her grandfather.
